HP were pretty good, sent me a new head and set of carts. I had been refilling but with good OCP ink.

Then close up the printer and print a test page (On the c4385 press the Cancel and Green buttons). Sorry like Thrilla Mozilla cannot offer you much help except that I had a HP 5380 which blew the print head within the warranty period. HP printers can be identified by the HP logo, which includes the name HP in lowercase font inside of a circle. Some Photosmart printers include all-in-one capabilities meaning that the printer can print, scan, and copy documents and photos. When you've got the tray moving smoothly, make sure you remove any stray cotton fluff, especially from the rubber wipers. The HP Photosmart line includes some compact photo printers but mainly features color inkjet printers. I was careful not to get alcohol anywhere where ink doesn't normally splash. I don't think it took me so long, but I didn't go nuts, just cleared where the moving parts slide. A quick scan on the Web reveals the printer you are considering uses HP 02 ink cartridges with 3.5 ml capacity. New printers are introduced every few months often they are cheaper to replace and refill. I cleaned mine with cotton balls, a hemostat, and cheap vodka. There's a boxed up HP CP1700 tabloid printer in the garage that requires 600 worth of printheads and ink cartridges to get going. My c4385 was out of warranty and had printed almost 9000 pages when enough ink had accumulated to gum up the wiper tray rails. The tray should slide easily back and forth, at right angles to the print carriage, with just a little hesitation when the wipers go under a scraper bar that sits behind the carriage. Specifically, the carriage Auyeung1962 refers to is an inkjet wiper tray that sits under the cartridges on the right side of the printer. Auyeung1962's answer worked for clearing a carriage jam message on my HP PhotoSmart c4385 that persisted after the paper path was clear, the print carriage was moving freely, power was confirmed, and a hard reset had been performed.

Note that there is a difference between a paper jam and a carriage jam, although one can cause the other.
